Yusuf Islam — formerly Cat Stevens — was refused entry into the United States and will be returned to Great Britain today.
What an embarrassment for the United States.
Justin Raimondo posits there might be something to (Treasonous) Bob Novak’s insider report that Mr. Bush will be making a hasty exit from Iraq. “I can’t think of one mistake” George has certainly had his plate full what with learning how to enunciate tare-or as opposed to turr-uh while putting spit to his sort-of shiny, recently adopted Reagan-style delivery. The wistfull glances as if he’s actually pondering something, the pregnant “ahh”, “hmm”, as though he’s coming up with answers on the spot. “Wellll”….
It’s all so, well, contrived.
If George W. Bush is a victim, a bubble boy who was conned into believing “intelligence” that millions of internet surfers knew to be lies, he should be removed from office for gross incompetence alone.
If he is the village idiot who has finally seen the light, and has any spine at all, he’d climb down from his empirical hobby horse and at least fire somebody. Bring us the heads of Wolfowitz and Hadley? Well, no. According to Novak they’ll be moving up to the engineer’s cab of the peace-freedom-liberty train.
A U-Turn in Iraq? makes note of Andrew Sullivan’s take on it which is that Novak, like George, was duped by the brilliant neoconservatives. My they are a clever bunch. Now George will be asked, “Will you pull out?”, to which he will certainly reply, “No, do I look like a flip-flopper to you?”, hence, he’s “boxed in” and the neoconservatives win. On to Iran because, apparently, no one in this administration has the balls to tell them to bugger off.
If I could ask “I don’t nation build” George a question I’d like to know who’s paying for the 500 bunker busters going to Israel. The 400,000 public workers striking there who haven’t been paid a salary in months might like to know as well.
Screw George. Either he’s grossly incompetent or a pathological liar. I tend to think it’s a balancing act between the two.
