Help Amplify Advocacy for Election Reform

(from my e-mail)

We are at a crucial point in advancing our agenda for election reform. As state lawmakers return to state capitals all over the country, and federal legislators head back to Washington, DC, now is the time to take the energy for election reform we generated during our December 7 conference, “Vote 2004: A Report to the Nation,” and push hard for legislation that will ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast a ballot.

Our “Report to the Nation” conference, which was attended by hundreds of activists from all over the country, was an important step in our efforts to seek meaningful reform for our flawed election systems. The overwhelmingly positive response from activists and media buzz from the event made it clear that Americans care deeply about the integrity of our elections. Make no mistake: the discussion that conference generated pushed our agenda for election reform into the consciousness of our congressional leaders and the mainstream media in a big way.

Now, we want to use every means available to amplify the positive energy of our advocacy efforts for election reform, and we’d like to count on you for a boost:

Although more than 500 activists attended the December 7 conference in Washington, millions of interested voters around the country weren’t able to be there in person. We’d like to take our message for reform to them – and to the nation. We are in the process of producing audio segments and a video presentation highlighting the many problems in our election systems and advocating our proposed reforms. We plan to use video footage from the conference, as well as sound bites from the many election observers and experts who spoke there. We will also include the voices of voters who called our national voter hotline on and before November 2 to report problems. The audio and video components will be professionally produced and make a compelling case for election reform.

Will you help us raise $20,000 in the next two weeks so that we can produce these audio and video presentations on the need for election reform?

Your contributions and support will help us meet the production costs of $8,000 for the audio segments and about $12,000 for the video.

We plan to distribute the audio segments to radio stations across the country, and the video to lawmakers, activists, and the press. These multimedia tools will be incredibly helpful in our effort to talk about election reform and the urgent need for meaningful legislation to address the problems we saw on Election Day. We need your support and contributions today so that we can use the many powerful election stories we collected to educate lawmakers and others about the voting problems experienced by tens of thousands of voters to make the strongest case for reform:

We are doing all we can to protect and improve the integrity of our elections and we need you to help us take the next step to reform our electoral process for all Americans. Your support and financial contributions for this Common Cause project will help us achieve that goal.

Thank you again for your continued commitment to restoring the integrity of our democratic process.

Sincerely,
