Jane Mayer’s “The Manipulator” opens on a curious note:
“Ahmad Chalabi pushed a tainted case for war. Can he survive the occupation?”
Chalabi’s misinformation can’t have much to do with the reason he’s been scapegoated by the Bush administration. If he really is in the doghouse it’s more likely his ambitions, whatever they might be, and the avenues he’s pursued to realise them, that put him there. My guess is he had something incriminating on the bosses and they were in a hurry to retrieve it. The Bush administration was well aware their intelligence was flawed and were provided numerous opportunities to disavow it but chose instead to compound it with even more lies. If Chalabi’s major sin in the commission of this crime, in which they are all complicit, is flawed intelligence then why was yet another misinformer chosen as prime minister?
Now we find out Allawi likely killed children in his role as CIA-sponsored terrorist.
Oh right. In the words of Madeleine Albright:
“If we have to use force, it is because we are America! We are the indispensable nation. We stand tall, and we see further into the future.”
That crystal ball seems to be fresh out of vision and stuck in disastrous reruns.
