There will be a war crimes tribunal now, correct? Not a mock-up in Iraq conducted by the U.S.?

Iraq Council Confirms Saddam Caught Alive

BAGHDAD, Iraq – U.S. military captured Saddam Hussein (newsweb sites) alive in his hometown of Tikrit on Sunday, eight months after the fall of Baghdad, the Iraqi Governing Council said.

But would Tony Blair welcome a trial he cannot control?

I predict the Iraqi judges will be hand-picked and the ‘international legal experts‘ from coalition countries only. Matter of security, of course.

Coalition authorities have said that the former Iraqi president, if captured, could be tried at a war crimes tribunal, with Iraqi judges presiding and international legal experts acting as advisers.

The ‘trial’ should be a summer blockbuster.

Saddam hid under vegetables ‘like a rat’

Head of the Constitutional Monarchy Movement al-Sharif Ali bin al-Hussein said former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was hiding “like a rat” in a vegetable storage house when he was arrested.

“They (US soldiers) dragged him from under vegetables. He did not resist. He was hiding like a rat under vegetables.

“This is evidence that Saddam has nothing to do with the resistance taking place in Iraq,” al-Hussein told al-Jazeera television.

He added that Saddam was hiding alone and was in a “terrible state” when he was arrested.

Judging from the shape he’s in, Saddam’s lost track of that ‘$54 billion’ as well.

Is this really the ‘end‘ or the beginning of a more damning period for the Bush administration. If the insurgency continues to claim American lives despite a trial spun to perfection, doubtful considering this administration’s propensity for bungling the best of PR situations, who will George have to blame now that Saddam is captured?

al-Qaeda? Iran? Syria? Probably.

Why not history?
