Factcheck.com?

Dick Cheney pointed the public to a website during last night’s VP debate so we can check out the facts of Halliburton. That URL points to GeorgeSoros.com.

According to [stone]’s Plan:

“…the current top story at factcheck.org is headlined “Getting it wrong about combat pay, Halliburton, and factcheck.org,” and the summary begins as follows:

‘Cheney wrongly implied that FactCheck had defended his tenure as CEO of Halliburton Co.'”

I think it’s unfortunate that Edwards didn’t clarify Cheney’s legacy as CEO of Halliburton especially in regard to Nigeria and France’s possible indictment of Dick in the bribery case.

The story is out there. NPR‘s John Burnett‘s coverage this week was most relevant as it spoke to Cheney’s leadership skills. According to former associates and financial experts Cheney’s credentials as a CEO are suffering tremendously due decisions he made whilst at the helm of Halliburton including personally making the deal to acquire Dresser Industries, at the time considered a coup he arranged whilst on a Texas quail hunting trip, but with baggage of enormously costly asbestos liability claims. Dresser Industries also brought with it N.W. Kellogg, an offshore oil construction company that is part of the consortium which is under investigation for bribery in Nigeria.

People speaking on behalf of Halliburton and its ongoing troubles say in hindsight they would have done things differently. They charge that although Cheney brought along helpfull contacts his failure to pay attention to details has been disastrous. Highlighting incompetency is something that would resonate with people. Americans are most willing to do whatever it takes to ‘get ahead.’ What they won’t abide is someone being handed keys to the BMW which they then crash into the nearest tree.
