Say What?

“The United States of America has no long-term designs on staying in Iraq.”

Kerry even mentioned the 14 bases being built in Iraq as if he and his advisors have never expressed a desire for the United States to maintain an Iraq presence. Certainly he really means he would not maintain such an overtly bullying presence since he also said:

“And our goal in my administration would be to get all of the troops out of there with a minimal amount you need for training and logistics as we do in some other countries in the world after a war to be able to sustain the peace.

But that’s how we’re going to win the peace, by rapidly training the Iraqis themselves.”

It has to be frustrating for both camps to concoct a plan of the day and maintain some semblance of truth when events on the ground dispel the wishfull thinking behind their rhetoric that America’s only aim is to bestow democracy upon the Iraqis.

If John Kerry intends to bring truth to this campaign he should at least recognise that Iraqis want us out of their country. Training does not guarantee loyalty, for all of the reasons William Lind illustrated and as our own reservists are beginning to demonstrate, for the simple reason this ‘war’ has never made a damn bit of sense.

To think otherwise is to have a “long-term design” for the country.

Sometimes one has to choose the lesser of two evils. Kerry’s policies are closer to those needed for a better future. They’re not perfect, but perfection is not an option in the coming election, is it? Nader – a wasted vote.

The question for me is which of them is the lesser of two evils.

I attempted to address the debate here.

I’ve never been impressed with Nader’s grasp of foreign affairs so I wouldn’t be comfortable voting for him even if I weren’t living in a so-called battleground state.

The only aspect of this election I’m sure of is I can’t recall more blatant propaganda ever being utilised and accepted as fact by so many in one before and that it must mean Americans are getting dumber not smarter.

    Peace
