Bond hearing to be held Thursday 10 AM

Alexandria, VA – July 10, 2008

All of Dr. Al-Arian’s supporters who are able to travel to Virginia are requested to attend Dr. Al-Arian’s bond hearing this Thursday, July 10th at 10 AM sharp.

Dr. Al-Arian has been unjustly imprisoned for the past five years; although he was scheduled to be released last April, the government ignored its own plea agreement, unlawfully requiring him to testify before a third grand jury in what was a blatant perjury trap (click here for more background information). Because of his refusal to testify, Dr. Al-Arian was charged with two counts of criminal contempt on June 26th. His trial is set for August 13th. Criminal contempt has no maximum penalty and, if convicted, he could potentially be sentenced to life. Thus, being released on bail before the trial may be Dr. Al-Arian’s last chance to spend time with his family with any degree of normalcy for the rest of his life.
