Two Israeli activists, Yael and Zohar, attacked in Tel Aviv, after distributing Yesh Gvul leaflets *** Israeli student Ben Frenkel stresses his delight regarding the attack

Meet Ben Frenkel

Ben Frenkel (photos below) is a student at the IDC in Herzliya, Israel.

Is Ben so important? perhaps not, but his views and actions are.

On Saturday 7/6/08 Yael and Zohar, a young Israeli woman and a young Israeli man, were savagely attacked by a group of 5-6 young men in Tel Aviv, after attending a demonstration to mark 41 years of occupation. Zohar is a Yesh Gvul activist, and the attackers had cursed him during the demonstration, after seeing him distributing Yesh Gvul leaflets about war crimes. Zohar had to be taken to a hospital after the attack. The attackers are still at large. To those concerned, Zohar is now back to his life of studying, work, and activism.

After the incident was reported, Ben Frenkel, a law student (and a lawyer one day?) sent Zohar the following email:

“I just want you to know that I and many of my friends, encourage the attackers, it’s so good that there people who care!

And no, I am not a settler, I am not religious, I am completely secular, from the centre of Israel, and I am just thrilled about this [attack]”

We are circulating this message, hoping to counter the incitement to political violence and support of political violence in Israel.
