one eye open

Praful Bidwai examines what changes can be expected now that India’s signed the “Framework for the U.S.-India Defense Relationship“. It appears that India will perform internationally illegal sea duty and surrender sovereignty in exchange for the promise of U.S. technology.

The U.S. might have succeeded in selling her “1970s-generation weapons platforms like F-16 warplanes, and a new version of the Patriot anti-missile missile system, as well as co-production of U.S.-developed weapons”, but it appears Rice has failed to dissuade both India and Pakistan from pursuing “their plans to construct a pipeline that will transport Iranian gas deep into South Asia.”

Perhaps India’s eyes aren’t as shut as some would believe.
