Colin Powell, in the waning moments of his less than illustrious service as Secretary of State, is doing a PR tour of disaster-stricken Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka with Jeb Bush, of all people. I see Jeb nudging some frantic official and with a wink, saying, “Tough for you that your brother isn’t facing re-election and this isn’t a battleground state, huh.”

Speaking from Thailand to the BBC, Powell expressed regret upon hearing of the assassination of the governor of Baghdad, Ali al-Haidri, and said this would not interfere with Iraq’s elections this month. If only Bush & Co., and the Americans enforcing this occupation, acquiesced to the will of the majority as Powell did when he resigned his post.

And acting on a request from Tom DeLay, House Republicans have voided their recent reversal of a rule that would have removed dear leader from his command post, if indicted on an ethics violation.

They still plan to introduce rule changes today that will effectively remove accountability for scoundrels like DeLay, and according to Common Cause, Dennis Hastert may be replacing Rep. Joel Hefley with Rep. Lamar S. Smith, a contributor to DeLay’s defense fund.
