So many knuckles, so little time

NBC late-night dinosaur Saturday Night Live – a comedy show that remains on the air despite being largely ignored for more than 30 years – is continuing to play a role in Hillary Clinton’s political assassination of Barack Obama. For a third consecutive week since a writer’s strike ended and its new season began SNL has delivered a skit depicting Clinton as the experienced, capable candidate and Obama as the bumbling, deceitful and incompetent one.

SNL’s return featured Tina Fey agreeing with critics that Clinton’s a bitch, and so is she, just like the nuns who use corporal punishment to teach effectively before shouting, “bitch is the new black.” Then she ordered voters in Ohio and Texas to get on board. Clinton supporters enjoyed it so much they’re branding t-shirts and other products with the slogan.

Clinton is a bitch, as Fey defines it, and it is the candidate’s most unattractive quality. Her failure to pass health care reform during her husband’s presidential terms was due to her proclivity for making demands and her inability to negotiate. She’s retained every bit of this crude and uncivil temperament and remains unfit for negotiating honourably with opponents.

“Bitch is the new black” means that Obama leads in delegates and popular vote only because he is black. The same media calling Geraldine Ferraro’s mirror statement “unwise” and “offensive” is pushing SNL skits as harmless comedy.

Fey ridiculed objections to having two Clintons sharing the presidency. She commented that Hillary and Bill have less sex than Jeb and George Bush as if critics are repulsed by their sex habits and not their dirty dealings and lying natures. Hillary’s claim to a comprehensive record of foreign experience is yet another lie.

Major networks re-air the attacks on Obama repeatedly. Clinton’s fear-mongering 3am ad continues to reach a much wider audience than Clinton’s campaign could afford thanks to networks and pundits still finding excuses to talk about it. Obama ads are not afforded an equal share of free air time. Detractors are dismissed as silly and overly concerned.

MSNBC pundits and other McCain supporters are entering a dry spell between the Mississippi and Pennsylvania primaries. There are no primary or caucus outcomes to predict with polls and conventional wisdom only mud-slinging and reactions to the implosion of the Democrat party in Pennsylvania. SNL material will be declared interesting by default.

Perhaps Grandpa Lorne resents the youngsters who’ve propelled Obama to front-runner status but have rejected SNL as a front-runner of cutting-edge satire so he enjoys snuffing their political enthusiasm.

Granted, the political IQ of Democrats has never been lower. Lorne Michaels may believe Hillary Clinton is the only candidate who can defeat John McCain and Obama supporters will vote for her despite the inexcusable tactics she’s deployed. No wonder SNL has been a wreck for so long if his insight into public reaction is so skewed. Bill Clinton is in Mississippi, stumping for the primary, making the ridiculous claim that his wife has brought Reagan Democrats back to the party. How many Clinton votes were mailed in before the debates transpired and the dirty tricks were pulled? Obama’s constituency is the future; 20 and 30-somethings awakened to the process and wondering why bigots and racists are running the show. So many knuckles, so little time.
