God speak

From yesterday’s Crossfire:

NOVAK: In 2002, Thune would have been elected to the state’s other Senate seat, but the election was stolen by stuffing ballot boxes on the Indian reservations. Now Tom Daschle may have to pay for that theft.

Tsk, tsk*, Bob. How does Carville expect to be taken seriously when he shares a stage with this cretinous dissembler who ruined Valerie Plame’s career and possibly put her in the crosshairs?

I can think of at least one reason Carville’s never resigned in protest.

Michael Meacher, UK’s Environment Minister, 1997-2003, penned an article that appeared in The Observer, in which he cited four pieces of evidence used by Tony Blair in order to justify the pre-emptive strike on Iraq:

The fourth piece of evidence was used on 25 February 2003 when Tony Blair told the House of Commons that ‘it was only four years later, after the defection of Saddam’s son-in-law to Jordan, that the offensive biological weapons and the full extent of the nuclear programme were discovered’. However, a week later Newsweek obtained details of Kamel’s actual IAEA and Unscom debriefing. That reveals he said exactly the opposite. Does this mean that Kamel’s testimony was twisted to make the case for war when its public disclosure was not anticipated?

Twisted like a pretzel and with an historic precedent. It was the same intelligence an anonymous official in the Clinton administration referred to as a “godsend” in ’96 when Clinton was grasping for reasons to maintain sanctions.

Not surprisingly, despite the disclosure of this intelligence that has continued to be cited by so many as evidence of Iraq’s imminent threat, the issue of disarming Iraq was tabled for two years!

Certainly Clinton was privy to the information Newsweek and others revealed. So how honourable was it to *capitulate to Rummy, Wolfowitz and the rest, when impeachment oscillated him receptive to facilitating their goals?

CARVILLE: I think God’s — I think God’s ways are mysterious. But to interject him in there and think that he would be for George W. Bush, who lied to get us into a war, has got our troops over there bogged down, acting arrogant in foreign policy, acting unilateralist, sitting here cutting education at home, sitting here putting debt on other people.

(BELL RINGING)

CARVILLE: I think, if God has anything to say about this, he will be for the Democrats.

If God is speaking to any of these people they’re turning a deaf ear.

And someone needs to step-up to the plate and educate the barking seals in Crossfire’s audience and elsewhere that supporting a gov’t waging permanent war will be expensive. You want to keep your tax cuts? Then give peace a chance. Your God might even acknowledge your presence in the universe, albeit on the lowest rungs of humanity.
