H. Res 333: Impeach Vice President Cheney

H. Res 333, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich and co-sponsored by 21 22 Democrats, “alleges that Cheney misled Congress regarding pre-war intelligence on Iraq. It also alleges that he is once again misleading Congress about the need to attack Iran.” C-Span is sponsoring links to documents and co-sponsors.

The House is currently voting on a motion to table the resolution. The session has gone past its 15 minutes of time scheduled and has been underway more than 50 minutes.

Impeach Cheney!

Update: Motion to table fails after one hour and ten minutes of voting. Hoyer asks for resolution to be referred to House Judiciary Committee.

Congressional Quarterly’s Ed Epstein, interviewed by C-Span, claims that Republicans switched votes from yea to nay on tabling the resolution in order to force a one-hour floor debate, figuring such a debate would embarrass Democrats.

Kucinich on the phone with C-Span has denied Epstein’s charge that his resolution has nothing to do with impeaching Cheney and everything to do with Kucinich’s presidential campaign.

C-Span informs viewers that today, Rep. John Conyers warned the resolution would “cause a split” and keep legislators from conducting important business. Many have surmised that, “Conyers abandoned the impeachment issue because he wanted to be Chair of the Judiciary Committee.”

The House has voted to send the resolution to the Judiciary Committee.
