Do you want to end this immoral war sooner rather than later?
Everyone who seeks peace is invited to participate in any or all of SODaPOP events beginning on Nov. 7 and culminating on January 14, 2008, during the Iowa Presidential Caucuses.
Seasons of Discontent; a Presidential Occupation Project’s (SODaPOP’s) kickoff event will be Nov. 7 in Des Moines. Please come if you can. Come if you’re interested in participating in civil disobedience and come if you can’t risk arrest but want to support this effort to end the war.
The details for the Kickoff can be found at the link below.

If the politicians refuse to cut the Iraq War funding, then why don’t the anti-war folks just walk down to their local bank and ask for their money in Canadian dollars? It would bring Bush and The Clowns to their knees overnight.
Nobody would lose any money because the more people who demanded Canadian dollars, the higher the value of the Canadian dollar would become.
It sure beats depending on street protests and having to schedule time to attend protests.
By exchanging funds at the bank, you could do it on your own time and quietly without much scheduling problems.

I forgot to add ….
I think the changes you made to this site are quite good. It is much more user friendly.

I’d like to see 500,000 or more antiwar folks march into their employer’s administrative offices and file for the maximum tax exemptions.
Hi! Again
I’m quite serious …. would my idea work? It seems that everything else has failed. Maybe all the bloggers and others who claim to be opposed to the war are just a bunch of clowns and really don’t want to take “serious” steps and are quite content to appear concerned and collect monies and site visitors only. (Not directed at you personally.)
I’m trying to think of a way where ordinary folks can protest in a much more feasible or appropriate fashion …. Protest marches are scheduled event, and that is a major problem for many people who have other commitments.
I would think that if this idea was to go mainstream, just the threat itself would bring the political parties to their knees. They would have to get out front and pronto.
I believe that if people just went to their local bank and asked for their funds in Canadian currency, the impact would be huge!
It would be very simple to do. No planning or scheduling …. just a simple request at the bank next payday. I don’t mean that everybody should take their zillion dollars in savings accounts and exchange it for Canadian funds. (Although the more the merrier.) Just the Ordinary Joe turning their backs on the U.S. Greenback on payday.

Oh! What your sayin’ is that maximum exemptions would result in less monies to the treasury immediately, but it would also require the individual taxpayers to be certain of saving the extra funds and pay it on tax filing day the following year?
Is that the trip?

I was thinking that a tax revolt in those numbers would be a nightmare to prosecute. Pay back? Why bother with a revolt.
I have no idea whether exchanging US for Canadian dollars would be particularly bothersome for anyone but the consumer attempting to buy goods in the USA. Harper is a globalist and the Canadian dollar is pegged to the US dollar, yes?
The U.S. dollar is worth about 1.01 US. (Canadian Dollar worth a penny more.)
The more demand for Canadian dollars would mean that the Canadian dollar would rise in value against the U.S. dollar. So, nobody would lose any money when they cashed back into U.S. funds after the “banking protest” made it’s point.
The effect would be immediate. I would think that once the word was out, it would become major talking points all over the globe. The U.S. would need to react immediately. All the big financiers would loose if it were not nipped in the bud.
I sincerely believe that an action like this would be quite easy to accomplish and quite noteworthy or quite a strong statement by the average Joe.
I see your point about problems buying U.S. goods with Canadian dollars …. but I think that just the “intent” or just the proposed threat would really shake the government up and perhaps the banking protest need not take place at all.

Apparently, the Canadian dollar hasn’t been fixed since the 70s, the Bank preferring to engage in intervention as the market determines.
Say enough people were to exchange US for Canadian dollars that the governments noticed, would the Bank of Canada then engage in such an intervention? It seems logical that US citizens would indeed lose money before it’s all sorted out, but the governments would go on as usual.
Banks and financial houses play the foreign currency markets every day.
Tourists convert funds prior foreign travel. So, American’s know how to do this and it is a very simple trip.
The objective would be to have the threat out there for discussion and the politicians would know that if they don’t cut the funding, the average Joe will do it for them.
Very embarassing for the politicans.
It would have the politicians know that it is the average Joe who has control of the purse and not the elected Clowns.
Every blogger in Mouse Land should begin a discussion about this idea and just the discussion alone will bring the politicians to their senses.
Even if it costs 5 bucks to convert a hundred bucks to Canadian funds, it still is cheaper then paying 5 bucks for transit fare to participate in a protest in some city. To particpate in a protest, yuh gotta pack a lunch too. To convert funds is a very simple act of defiance.

I won’t bug yuh any more about it. Thanks for your input though.

Sorry ….
I just wanted to add one more bit of content toward my conversation.
Look at how this method was used to undermine the leader of Britain.
