Why did Poppy do it?

Bush Sr.’s ‘message’ to Bush Jr.
By Georgie Anne Geyer, The Boston Globe, 18/10/2003

But the news from College Station, Texas, this week — that the First Father, former President George H.W. Bush, has given his own most treasured award to Senator Edward Kennedy — is nearly as astonishing.

When it was announced (with amazingly little fanfare) that the pugnaciously anti-Iraq war Democrat Kennedy had been awarded the 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service, so many jaws dropped all over Washington that usually voluble politicians were only heard swallowing their real thoughts.

Why did Poppy do it?…

George isn’t the only person travelling this week. Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, arrived in Pakistan Saturday and was greeted warmly by both President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.

Prince Abdullah and Musharraf met in a show of solidarity and support for the spirit of the recent OIC Summit where the Islamic nations cited the U.S. as a threat.

“The threats of unilateralism, globalization and terrorism, the precarious situation in the Middle East and the uncertain future of Iraq … have only served to threaten our very survival.”

Coming so soon after reading that Saudi Arabia is considering acquiring the nuclear bomb this visit to Pakistan is ominous, I think.

Do you think Poppy might think so too?

Deflecting any criticism he feared would come from this Nazi report?

Sincerely believes Ted Kennedy is right and his son is silly putty in the hands of neoconservative radicals who are out of control?

What then?
