“Stranger Than Fiction”

(from my e-mail)

Staten Island, my home for the last 25 years, was invaded by peace crazed Grandmothers this weekend. The damage done may well be irreparable. There were Grandmothers Against The War. There was the Granny Peace Brigade. There were War Resisters of the Granny persuasion. There were even Grannies who dress in (Code)PINK. And most, if not all, of these sublime sisters were to be seen wearing tshirts emblazoned with the slogan of the White Rose (die Weisse Rose): We Will Not Be Silent. “Wir schweigen nicht” – for those who remember Sophie and Hans Scholl, the students who were executed by the Nazis for the crime of leafleting against fascism. So, not surprisingly, SDS was also to be found supporting the Grannies. Peace Action Staten Island was also part of the Peace Conspiracy. Norman Siegel was there as well. Members of Veterans for Peace and Military Families Speak Out were clearly accessories before and after the fact. Things on Staten Island were clearly out of control.

Let us hope we never recover.

The Grannies were a delight and an inspiration. Photographic evidence of their misdeeds is now available at:

This sort of thing could become a contagion. Fingers crossed.
