Who’s afraid of the ISM?

Brian Malovany is a 36-year-old man who has travelled to Palestine twice in the past two years as a volunteer for the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). Recently, Brian and his family were treated shamelessly by Lee Kaplan, so sloppy a propagandist even David Horowitz should be ashamed to publish his work.

A featured “columnist” for Horowitz’s FrontPage magazine, Kaplan boasts that he is a world-renowned ISM-watcher who for three years has maintained a site devoted to the pursuit of their names and photos so he might alert the Israeli authorities and disrupt their entries into Palestine. I never heard of his place before this week, and according to a note on the home page, accessibility is soon to be improved. The same can’t be said for the content.

Kaplan’s Reliable Intelligence Rogues and Exposed ‘Cell’ Speaks Out illustrate the calibre of investigative work the infamous Kaplan does. He lifted photos from the internet and claimed they were taken by “an infiltrator.” And it turns out not one of the people were even associated with the ISM.

In Brian Malovany’s case, Kaplan was approached confidentially by his father last year through his website. Kaplan writes:

I sent a photograph to the Israeli police authorities with a copy of my article in which I exposed him as an ISM trainer. I told how he directed ISM volunteers to not stop Palestinian children from throwing stones even thought we were allegedly “peace activists” and how if we encountered armed terrorist groups we would have nothing to fear because the ISM worked with such groups and the word would be put out in advance not to harm us.. I was advised by the Israeli authorities that his picture was in a computer used at border entries along with his name to prevent him from getting into the West Bank. I also made an agreement with Brian Malovany’s father: I would keep our correspondence confidential. I understood the anguish of a father who wanted to keep his son out of harm’s way but did not want to seem to be against him.

Not only is the source of the text related to Malovany’s ISM work ambiguous, so is the nature of Kaplan’s concern for Brian’s father. Recently, Mr. Malovany once again sought Kaplan’s help in barring Brian from Palestine. This time, Kaplan published Mr. Malovany’s confidential correspondence and in doing so revealed his contempt.

Brian and his father have begun a new dialogue as a result of Kaplan’s self-promotional treachery, who when not whining about being “stalked” by Lee Kaplan Watch, soldiers on in his self-appointed quest to bring down the ISM by any deception the uninformed are willing to swallow unquestionably.

At least his most recent target is actually aligned with the organisation.

Kaplan owes his readership a visit to Palestine. He could provide first-hand coverage on the lovely living conditions there, explain to starving Palestinians why their hunger is necessary, but those who call for divestment of Israel are “inhumane.” He could conduct an interview or two with those rambunctious settlers in Tel Rumeida and At-Tuwani if they can spare a moment from beating children, poisoning livestock, and breaking the bones of Christian Peacemaker Team members. Maybe he could get his first exclusive by convincing them to remove their masks.

Since Kaplan and his ilk are in the business of burying the truth not revealing it, the reports are not anticipated.
