The Other 9/11

I saw this documentary for the first time Sunday. It’s a searing indictment of both Nixon and Kissinger and the corporations that urged them on in this coup.

THE TRIALS OF HENRY KISSINGER
BBC TWO: Wednesday 20 August 2003

This quote of Kissinger’s seems achingly relevant to the U.S. presence in Iraq today;

“I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves.”

— Henry Kissinger, Secretary of State under Richard Nixon, about Chile prior to the CIA overthrow of the democratically elected government of socialist President Salvadore Allende in 1973

That quote was pulled from the webpage created for Christopher Hitchens’ book “Trial of Henry Kissinger”, not to be confused with the documentary which is a clever adaptation of Hitchens’ title.

As well Hitchens today could never be taken for the man who wrote that book.
