Emily Henochowicz was deliberately shot and her government remains silent

Sheikh Jarrah
Amongst the chaos of the military and settler’s attempts to squander our ability to paint a mural, a little girl sadly sits on the swing set.

Drawn by Emily Henochowicz (her websiteh/tvia), twenty-one-year-old U.S. art student, deliberately shot by Israeli soldiers, at close range with tear-gas canisters, as she non-violently demonstrated at Qalandiya checkpoint on 31 May 2010.

Emily is recovering at Hadassah Hospital after two surgeries Monday night. She lost her left eye, three metal plates were inserted into her head/face, and her jaw is wired shut. The bone surrounding her eye socket, cheekbone and jawbone are all fractured.

Adam Shapiro yesterday on Democracy NOW!:

The Israelis opened a barrage of tear-gas canisters, fired at very close range, at her specifically. Eyewitness accounts talk about two tear-gas canisters being shot right at her feet and then a third being shot at her head, hitting her in the left eye, I believe. And we have received word from the doctors that she has lost her left eye.

Did the Obama administration give the Green Light?

It is important that this news gets out, with a view to ensuring that the Rachel Corrie MV safely reaches the coast of Gaza without encroachment, with a view to breaking Israel’s criminal embargo.

In this endeavor we shall prevail. Our hearts and minds are with those who continue to sail on board the Rachel Corrie MV.
