Get over it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann Leverett<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dyn.politico.com\/printstory.cfm?uuid=E47D1CF2-18FE-70B2-A8A86265132AF194\">15 June 2009<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the wake of Friday\u2019s election, some \u201cIran experts\u201d \u2014 perhaps feeling burned by their misreading of contemporary political dynamics in the Islamic Republic \u2014 argue that we are witnessing a \u201cconservative coup d\u2019\u00e9tat,\u201d aimed at a complete takeover of the Iranian state.<\/p>\n<p>But one could more plausibly suggest that if a \u201ccoup\u201d is being attempted, it has been mounted by the losers in Friday\u2019s election. It was Mousavi, after all, who declared victory on Friday even before Iran\u2019s polls closed. And three days before the election, Mousavi supporter Rafsanjani published a letter criticizing the leader\u2019s failure to rein in Ahmadinejad\u2019s resort to \u201csuch ugly and sin-infected phenomena as insults, lies and false allegations.\u201d Many Iranians took this letter as an indication that the Mousavi camp was concerned their candidate had fallen behind in the campaign\u2019s closing days. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>[<a href=\"http:\/\/dyn.politico.com\/printstory.cfm?uuid=E47D1CF2-18FE-70B2-A8A86265132AF194\">Read the article<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Related<\/em>:<br \/>\n<strong>Iran Writes: <a href=\"http:\/\/iranwrites.blogspot.com\/2009\/05\/mousavi-triumph-of-ordinariness.html\">Mousavi: The Triumph of Ordinariness<\/a> (17 May 2009)<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Worse than friendly endorsements are those statements which his supporters express here and there to make up for lack of any outstanding feature in Mousavi&#8217;s record, like, \u201cHe is the only one who can save the country,\u201d without thinking why the country should be in such a condition that only Mousavi can save it.
