HUE, VIETNAM<\/a>– A bomb left over from a war that ended here 30 years ago has severely disabled a 13 year old boy. Ho Van Nghia found the munition while bringing his mother lunch in a rice field on March third of this year, reports Clear Path International.<\/p>\n

After spotting the as of yet unidentified piece of ordnance, Nghia took it home with him to salvage the metal inside to sell for the equivalent of one or two US dollars. The bomb detonated in his front yard and blew off both of his legs below the knee, his left arm below elbow and some fingers in his right hand. In addition fragments of the bomb remain in his face and his eyesight has been severely damaged. The boy is currently in intensive care in Hue Central General Hospital. <\/p>\n

Although the Vietnam War ended nearly 30 years ago, bombs that remain in the ground still regularly claim lives and limbs. Since the war ended in 1975, nearly 40,000 Vietnamese have been killed by leftover ordnance. <\/p>\n
