Even if this is worked out as the convention heats up I doubt I’ll be tuning in.

I’ve looked over the list. Their selection hasn’t tempted me to add individual blogs to the aggregator. Only one of the chosen (but not in the aggregator because I have no feed for it) is a blog I visit regularly. There are also three regulars in my aggregator that are listed in the “also expected to be posting from the convention.” So except for checking in occasionally with the DNC site devoted to convention news, and eyeing HyperLincoln for their coverage of the convention bloggers, my browsing habits will remain the same this week.

The addition of this special room for bloggers, as it has been implemented, will likely not alter my perception of the convention or what transpires since it seems the campaign has done nothing more than provide a more public avenue for the usual suspects. I hope they prove me wrong!

I think there’s something to the idea the disinvited bloggers were too controversial. It’s a stretch for me to believe that the Kerry people, especially in this experiment being watched closely by the mainstream press, would go out of their way to include people that present a controversial message. I think it’s obvious they lost a good opportunity to include a wide spectrum of opinion and as the innovators should have set an impeccably high standard for doing so instead of taking what appears to be the safest route. Once credentials were granted it was simply bad form to withdraw them whatever the reason might have been.

But here’s an interesting post about the difference between bloggers with “news service” credentials as opposed to those with “blogger” credentials. It illustrates that bloggers should redefine how they approach these events in the future. Sure it’s expensive and inconvenient to independently cover events in distant cities but silly all the same to expect shelter and special access from the org. you’re investigating.

There’s no time to waste, or reason to regret, the loss of a free ride that carries an underpinning of obligation to the benefactor.

Update: Just came across William Rivers Pitt’s coverage of the convention. It will be a welcome addition to my internet travels this week.

As someone who only recently began using SharpReader and already quite accustomed to the convenience of using it to keep up with other blogs I’m surprised that the XML feed (and in this case, lack of one) provided to keep … Continue reading →

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[1

post-573","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
