{"id":527,"date":"2004-06-10T10:55:03","date_gmt":"2004-06-10T14:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/wordpress\/?p=527"},"modified":"2004-06-10T10:55:03","modified_gmt":"2004-06-10T14:55:03","slug":"buying-time-with-oil-revenues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=527","title":{"rendered":"Buying time with oil revenues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since reading the BBC report,<a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/business\/3793735.stm\">&#8220;Iraq &#8216;to shed&#8217; US oil advisers&#8221;<\/a>, I did a wee bit of a search on the &#8220;new&#8221; Oil Minister, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.findlaw.com\/business\/s\/20040601\/iraqenergyoildc.html\">technocrat<\/a> Thamir Ghadhban.  <\/p>\n<p>Found this titbit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weforum.org\/site\/knowledgenavigator.nsf\/Content\/The%20Geopolitics%20of%20Oil_2003?open\">Was the war in Iraq a war for oil? Ghadhban said it is a difficult question: &#8220;It was not totally about oil, but I cannot say oil was not involved.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ghadhban <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ogjpropertyexchange.com\/news\/news_display.cfm?Section=NEWS&#038;ArticleID=205656\">ran the oil ministry<\/a> for the U.S. immediately after the fall of Baghdad.  He &#8220;stayed in that position for about 7 months and later continued on as an advisor when the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority named Ibrahim Bahr al-Ulum, a member of the country&#8217;s Shiite Muslim majority, to the top post in November 2003.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Welcome back?
