{"id":520,"date":"2004-06-03T17:18:07","date_gmt":"2004-06-03T21:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/wordpress\/?p=520"},"modified":"2004-06-03T17:18:07","modified_gmt":"2004-06-03T21:18:07","slug":"us-visit-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=520","title":{"rendered":"US-VISIT Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It wasn&#8217;t clear from the report I read yesterday what <a href=\"http:\/\/afr.com\/articles\/2004\/06\/03\/1086203545075.html\">Accenture<\/a> was being given a contract to do.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epic.org\/\">EPIC<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epic.org\/\">Accenture Awarded US-VISIT Contract<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A U.S. corporation based in Bermuda will receive more than $10 billion from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/dhspublic\/\">Department of Homeland Security <\/a> to build US-VISIT, a massive government surveillance system that tracks visitors to, within, and from the United States. In February, EPIC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epic.org\/privacy\/us-visit\/us-visit_comments.pdf\">urged<\/a> (pdf) the agency to define how Privacy Act obligations affect the program, to consider the significance of international privacy standards in the collection and use of personal information on non-U.S. citizens, and to prohibit the expansion of US-VISIT uses beyond the program&#8217;s defined mission.
