{"id":4352,"date":"2008-09-28T08:03:32","date_gmt":"2008-09-28T13:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=4352"},"modified":"2008-09-28T08:03:32","modified_gmt":"2008-09-28T13:03:32","slug":"james-petras-human-rights-watch-in-venezuela-lies-crimes-and-cover-ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=4352","title":{"rendered":"James Petras: Human Rights Watch in Venezuela: Lies, Crimes and Cover-ups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>James Petras, petras.lahaine.org, <a href=\"http:\/\/petras.lahaine.org\/articulo.php?p=1755&#038;more=1&#038;c=1\">27 September 2008<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Human Rights Watch, a US-based group claiming to be a non-governmental organization, but which is in fact funded by government-linked quasi-private foundations and a Congressional funded political propaganda organization, the National Endowment for Democracy, has issued a report \u201cA Decade Under Chavez: Political Intolerance and Lost Opportunities for Advancing Human Rights in Venezuela\u201d (9\/21\/2008 <a href=\"http:\/\/hrw.org\">hrw.org<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p>The publication of the \u201cReport\u201d directed by Jose Miguel Vivanco and sub-director Daniel Walkinson led to their expulsion from Venezuela for repeated political-partisan intervention in the internal affairs of the country.<\/p>\n<p>A close reading of the \u201cReport\u201d reveals an astonishing number of blatant falsifications and outright fabrications, glaring deletions of essential facts, deliberate omissions of key contextual and comparative considerations and especially a cover-up of systematic long-term, large-scale security threats to Venezuelan democracy posed by Washington.<\/p>\n<p>We will proceed by providing some key background facts about HRW and Vivanco in order to highlight their role and relations to US imperial power. We will then comment on their methods, data collection and exposition.
