Apparently Britain’s MoD<\/a> is more forthcoming about what the Iraq occupation is costing and future projections than their U.S. counterparts.<\/a> <\/p>\n

A proposal by Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J.<\/a>, for an independent investigation of the prewar intelligence was defeated Wednesday in the Senate on a 51-45 vote. Corzine sought to include the amendment as part of a $386.6 billion defense spending bill. <\/p>\n

Senate Appropriations Chairman Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, described the proposal as “an attempt to smear the president of the United States.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Stevens’ remark is one of the most ridiculous I’ve read this week. The American public is entitled to this information and if the numbers affect Bush negatively, that’s just too bad. Maybe he should do something to turn things around.<\/p>\n

Here’s a suggestion. Engage the UN Security Council in talks to turn over this ‘liberation’ to an approved coalition and as soon as the plan is in place reduce our commitment there proportionately.<\/p>\n

Hopefully Bush will need the time it frees in his schedule to work on an impeachment defence<\/a>. Not<\/a> that there is one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
