{"id":4058,"date":"2008-08-26T12:32:10","date_gmt":"2008-08-26T17:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=4058"},"modified":"2008-08-26T12:32:10","modified_gmt":"2008-08-26T17:32:10","slug":"israeli-activist-jeff-halper-arrested-in-sderot-for-entering-gaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=4058","title":{"rendered":"Israeli activist Jeff Halper arrested in Sderot for entering Gaza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Israeli arrested for entering Gaza<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>By Yaakov Katz, <em>Jerusalem Post<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/servlet\/Satellite?cid=1219572133520\">26 August 2008<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Israeli pro-Palestinian activist Jeff Halper was arrested in Sderot on Tuesday for illegally entering Hamas-ruled Gaza, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Halper reached Gazan shores on Saturday with dozens of Free Gaza Movement activists on two boats aimed at &#8220;breaking the siege&#8221; of the Strip.<\/p>\n<p>Halper, who also heads the <a href=\"http:\/\/icahd.org\">Israeli Committee against House Demolitions<\/a>, crossed into Israel via the Erez border crossing, police said.<\/p>\n<p>He was questioned at Sderot&#8217;s police station, and will be charged for violating the IDF&#8217;s Southern Command Front order which forbids Israeli citizens from entering Palestinian areas without permission, a Lachish police spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Halper will be taken to court tomorrow,&#8221; the spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>But Angela Godfrey-Goldstein, a spokeswoman for <a href=\"http:\/\/freegaza.org\">Free Gaza Movement<\/a>, said Halper had entered Gaza with permission from Israel&#8217;s foreign and interior ministries. &#8220;I received a text message on my mobile phone saying that those two ministries had given the boats permission to land in Gaza.
