{"id":363,"date":"2004-02-22T09:42:28","date_gmt":"2004-02-22T13:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/wordpress\/?p=363"},"modified":"2004-02-22T09:42:28","modified_gmt":"2004-02-22T13:42:28","slug":"osama-bin-laden-cornered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=363","title":{"rendered":"Osama bin Laden &#8216;cornered&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story2&#038;u=\/afp\/britain_us_attacks\">this report is true<\/a> it would explain why U.S. officials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.voanews.com\/article.cfm?objectID=0DE47CBF-8661-4A14-BF13DD8865E500BD\">were publically predicting his capture last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the article:<\/p>\n<div style=\"border: 1px dotted #550; font size: 12x; padding: 5px; margin:\n5px;\">LONDON (AFP) &#8211; US and British special forces have cornered Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a mountainous area in northwest Pakistan, near the Afghanistan border, the Sunday Express newspaper reported. <\/p>\n<p>Quoting &#8220;a US intelligence source,&#8221; it said bin Laden and &#8220;up to 50 fanatical henchmen&#8221; were inside an area 16 kilometres (10 miles) wide and deep &#8220;north of the town of Khanozai and the city of Quetta&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is boxed in,&#8221; the unidentified source was quoted by the tabloid as saying, adding that US special forces were &#8220;absolutely confident&#8221; that he could not escape. <\/p>\n<p>According to the source, bin Laden moved into the area, &#8220;in the desolate Toba Kakar mountains,&#8221; about one month ago from another area 240 kilometres to the south, the Sunday Express said Saturday.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Whether his capture would mean the world is a safer place is another matter.  I&#8217;d say that would be a dangerously naive analysis of the development. <\/p>\n<p>Factor <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story2&#038;u=\/afp\/iraq_jordan_kuwait\">this kind of development<\/a>: <\/p>\n<div style=\"border: 1px dotted #550; font size: 12x; padding: 5px; margin:\n5px;\">BAGHDAD (AFP) &#8211; The current president of Iraq&#8217;s interim Governing Council said that Baghdad could consider territorial claims over neighbouring Jordan and Kuwait in the future.    <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need our Arab brothers around us. Now, we cannot discuss this matter with them at all, but in the future, we&#8217;ll see,&#8221; said Mohsen Abdel Hamid, in response to a question from a Baghdad consultative council member. <\/p>\n<p>Shaza Hadi al-Obeidi had asked Abdel Hamid about the status of territory, once linked to Iraq, such as Jordan and Kuwait, at an extraordinary meeting of the 37-member consultative council.<\/p>\n<p>A Jordanian government spokeswoman said Amman would demand an explanation of Abdel Hamid&#8217;s comments. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the comments attributed to the current president of the interim Governing Council are confirmed, Jordan will demand clarifications from Iraq,&#8221; Asma Khodr said in Amman. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are convinced that these remarks do not reflect the opinion&#8221; of the Governing Council, she said.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Consider the continued injustice in Israel and U.S. interventions in the Caucusus, among other places.
