{"id":3136,"date":"2008-05-07T10:41:06","date_gmt":"2008-05-07T15:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=3136"},"modified":"2008-05-08T09:20:39","modified_gmt":"2008-05-08T14:20:39","slug":"us-urged-to-divorce-politics-from-aid-to-myanmar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=3136","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Urged to Divorce Politics from Aid to Myanmar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Haider Rizvi, OneWorld US, <a href=\"http:\/\/us.oneworld.net\/article\/view\/160445\/1\/\">7 May 2008<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UNITED NATIONS, May 7 (OneWorld) &#8211; A major U.S.-based humanitarian aid group is urging the Bush administration to revise its aid policy toward Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and provide immediate assistance to the cyclone victims in that country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now is the time to support the Burmese people&#8221; said Joel Charny of the aid group Refugees International in a statement urging the U.S. government to change its funding policy on Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p>The United States has put severe restrictions on humanitarian aid to Myanmar, and provides less aid to the country than any other major donor nation, the group said Monday.
