{"id":2903,"date":"2008-02-12T05:39:38","date_gmt":"2008-02-12T11:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=2903"},"modified":"2008-02-12T05:39:38","modified_gmt":"2008-02-12T11:39:38","slug":"christopher-fung-asians-for-clinton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=2903","title":{"rendered":"Christopher Fung: Asians for Clinton?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bloggersforobama.blogspot.com\/2008\/02\/editorial.html\"><strong>By Christopher Fung, Ph.D.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>7 February 2008<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think it will be news to anyone  who knows me that I found this latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/opinion\/walsh\/election_2008\/2008\/02\/07\/super_tuesday\/index.html\">op-ed<\/a>  piece by Joan Walsh at Salon in which she tries to make sense of &#8220;Asian&#8221; support  for Hillary Rodham Clinton more than somewhat frustrating.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Walsh has  shown an annoying tendency to jump immediately to simplistic notions of race,  class and\/or gender in order to bring some sort of taxanomic order to what is  actually a relatively complex array of factors used by voters to select the  candidate of their choice.<\/p>\n<p>Her discussion of &#8220;Asians&#8221; is a case in point.  As with the rest of the punditocracy (interestingly, Walsh does not seem to  believe she is a part of this group), Walsh engages in lazy generalizations  which I believe end up obscuring more than they illuminate.
