Quite the speech Mr. Tony ‘postmodern<\/a> state<\/a>‘ Blair gave to UK troops in Basra.<\/p>\n

Mr Blair said<\/a> the British armed forces were “the new pioneers of soldiering in the 21st century”, defending the world against the dual threats of terrorism and brutal and repressive regimes.<\/p>\n

The threat of war between states which was faced during much of the 20th century was now “highly improbable” except in the circumstances of chaos which could be created by terrorism, said Mr Blair.<\/p>\n

Global security was threatened by “a particular virus of Islamic terrorism that is a perversion of the true faith of Islam but is incredibly dangerous and which we see literally in every part of the world”, he said.<\/p>\n

“The other threat is brutal and repressive states which are developing weapons that can cause destruction on a massive scale and are a huge liability for the whole security of the world,” he said.<\/p>\n

And he warned: “These two threats come together.”<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said the Iraq conflict had been a “test case” of how such regimes can produce “chaos” that can lead to the breakdown of “the whole world system, economically, politically”.<\/p><\/div>\n
