{"id":2882,"date":"2008-02-03T14:08:40","date_gmt":"2008-02-03T19:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=2882"},"modified":"2008-02-03T14:08:40","modified_gmt":"2008-02-03T19:08:40","slug":"probe-of-2006-war-ignored-civilian-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=2882","title":{"rendered":"Probe of 2006 War Ignored Civilian Deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipsnews.net\/news.asp?idnews=41031\"><strong><span class=\"marron\">By Haider Rizvi<\/span><\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<span class=\"texto1\"><br \/>\n<strong>UNITED NATIONS, Jan 31 (IPS) &#8211; A leading international human rights group is calling into question the findings of an Israeli inquiry into the Jewish state&#8217;s war with Lebanon in 2006.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The London-based Amnesty International says the Israeli government-appointed Winograd Commission is &#8220;deeply flawed&#8221; because it fails to address the issue of war crimes against the civilian population in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>The Winograd Commission report was released Wednesday, following a more than year-long inquiry that involved a series of hearings into the Israeli government&#8217;s conduct of war.<\/p>\n<p>The commission, chaired by retired judge Eliyahu Winograd, determined that Israel went into the conflict without a clear strategy and said there were &#8220;serious failures and shortcomings&#8221; by the government.<\/p>\n<p>But the commission did not explain in its report why the Israeli military failed to discriminate between Hezbollah fighters and Lebanese civilians. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>[<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipsnews.net\/news.asp?idnews=41031\">Read the report<\/a>]\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Haider Rizvi UNITED NATIONS, Jan 31 (IPS) &#8211; A leading international human rights group is calling into question the findings of an Israeli inquiry into the Jewish state&#8217;s war with Lebanon in 2006.
