{"id":1917,"date":"2007-04-05T08:32:50","date_gmt":"2007-04-05T12:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/wordpress\/?p=1917"},"modified":"2007-04-05T08:32:50","modified_gmt":"2007-04-05T12:32:50","slug":"palestinian-solidarity-strike-to-secure-release-of-bbc-correspondent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/karmalised.com\/?p=1917","title":{"rendered":"Palestinian Solidarity Strike to Secure Release of BBC Correspondent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Press Release, <em>International Federation of Journalists<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/v2\/article6769.shtml\">4 April 2007<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>3 April 2007 &#8212; The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today called for the immediate release of kidnapped BBC correspondent Alan Johnston and backed Palestinian journalists&#8217; decision to hold a three day-strike to call for his release.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is unconscionable that the Palestinian government has not done more to secure Alan&#8217;s release,&#8221; said IFJ General Secretary Aidan White. &#8220;Every day that passes jeopardises Alan&#8217;s safety even further and we support our Palestinian colleagues in their work to make sure that he is released quickly and unharmed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>IFJ affiliate The Palestinian Journalist Syndicate (PJS)-Gaza said on Monday it was holding a three-day strike to call for Johnston&#8217;s release.<\/p>\n<p>Johnston, who had been working in the Gaza Strip for three years, was kidnapped on March 12 by unknown gunmen.
