As, no doubt, the Israeli occupation of Palestine is more than a little reminiscent of the British occupation of Ireland, most particularly during the Troubles.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lyric:<\/p>\n<p>Khader Adnan, Bobby Sands<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Khader Adnan grew up near Jenin City<br \/>\nYou could say he was a product of his time<br \/>\nEver since he was a kid he&#8217;d get arrested<br \/>\nThough he was never charged with any crime<br \/>\nSpending half his life in prison<br \/>\nA life lived like so many of his friends<br \/>\nArbitrary and indefinite detention<br \/>\nNever knowing if your jail time would end<br \/>\nKhader Adnan was arrested last December<br \/>\nAgain he wasn&#8217;t told the reason why<br \/>\nHe was shackled, he was beaten, he was tortured<br \/>\nThere beneath the Middle Eastern sky<br \/>\nPerhaps there was a moment when he realized<br \/>\nThat right then, with his body, he&#8217;d say no<br \/>\nBut from then on he refused to eat another meal<br \/>\nLike in Belfast not many years ago<\/p>\n<p>Khader Adnan grew up in a war zone<br \/>\nBut all the tanks and planes were only on one side<br \/>\nIt was a type of war that they call occupation<br \/>\nSettlement, removal, fratricide<br \/>\nAnd anyone who talked about resistance<br \/>\nWho thought they did not deserve to be a slave<br \/>\nWould be looking down the barrel of a gun<br \/>\nAnd often find themselves inside an early grave<br \/>\nKhader Adnan loves his wife and daughters<br \/>\nAnd he likes to eat his daily bread<br \/>\nBut in prison he can&#8217;t see his children<br \/>\nOr live life with the lady that he wed<br \/>\nSo on behalf of all the children without fathers<br \/>\nHe decided he had to strike a blow<br \/>\nHe said I will have dignity or death<br \/>\nLike in Belfast not many years ago<\/p>\n<p>Each time Khader Adnan was arrested<br \/>\nIn prison he would learn a little more<br \/>\nAnd soon he became the teacher<br \/>\nAnd he&#8217;d talk about the times that came before<br \/>\nThey talked about civil disobedience<br \/>\nThey talked about the ballot and the gun<br \/>\nThey talked about the Occupied Six Counties<br \/>\nAnd the H Blocks in 1981<br \/>\nKhader Adnan talked of perseverance<br \/>\nAnd how someday their people might be free<br \/>\nHow someday they might hear their children laughing<br \/>\nUnafraid, how someday things could be<br \/>\nAnd then at 3:30 on one morning<br \/>\nThe soldiers came, their rifles pointed low<br \/>\nAnd they took Khader Adnan from his family<br \/>\nLike in Belfast not many years ago<\/p>\n<p>They say Khader Adnan is a terrorist<br \/>\nJust like they said of Bobby Sands<br \/>\nBecause he dares speak out against injustice<br \/>\nBecause he dares to make a stand<br \/>\nBecause he dares believe that he is human<br \/>\nAnd he does not deserve to live this way<br \/>\nBecause he dares to consider an alternative<br \/>\nBecause he dares imagine a new day<br \/>\nKhader Adnan lost his liberty before he was born<br \/>\nTo fight for life it&#8217;s death he must embrace<br \/>\nBut just like others come before him<br \/>\nThere are others waiting to take his place<br \/>\nAnd even the great powers can lose interest<br \/>\nIn supporting such a vicious status quo<br \/>\nBecause you can&#8217;t break a man who won&#8217;t be broken<br \/>\nLike in Belfast not many years ago<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uploaded to YouTube.com by drovics on Feb 19, 2012 Khader Adnan&#8217;s current hunger strike, presumably to the death, is more than a little reminiscent of the IRA hunger strikes of 1981.
