My Letter to Lebanon’s Prime Minister Fouad Siniora<\/strong> By Mike Whitney<\/strong><\/p>\n Dear Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, <\/strong><\/p>\n Perhaps you will be kind enough to answer a few questions regarding \t\t\tthe recent visit of United States Secretary of State Condoleezza \t\t\tRice, so that people around the world who have looked on with \t\t\tsympathy as your country has been ravaged by Israeli aggression can \t\t\tunderstand your feelings on these important matters.<\/p>\n First of all, why did you allow the Secretary of State to visit \t\t\tBeirut? The Bush administration had already made its position \t\t\tentirely clear and everyone who followed the issue knew that the US \t\t\twould continue to give Israel the \u201cgreen light\u201d until it finished \t\t\tits military operations according to its original plans.<\/p>\n Were you unaware that Rice had already stated that she was not \t\t\tprepared to offer a \u201ccease fire\u201d?<\/p>\n Were you unaware that the United States was \u201crushing a shipment of \t\t\tprecision-guided bombs to Israel\u201d to continue the slaughter of \t\t\tLebanese civilians and the destruction of the nation\u2019s \t\t\tinfrastructure?<\/p>\n Why would you allow yourself to be photographed \u201csmiley-faced\u201d and \t\t\tshaking hands with the woman who is destroying your country and \t\t\tkilling your people?<\/p>\n Haven\u2019t you seen the pictures of the vast devastation in the south \t\t\tof the country where 750,000 of your people have been forced off \t\t\ttheir land and shunted into refugee camps? Haven\u2019t you heard of the \t\t\tmany incidents of the Israeli military intentionally bombing \t\t\tcivilians, homes, bridges, milk factories, mosques, airports, \t\t\tpower-plants, lighthouses, and ports? \t\t\thttp:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article14069.htm<\/a><\/p>\n Haven\u2019t you seen the photos of the mass graves and the improvised \t\t\tcoffins which have been laid side-by-side in long rows following \t\t\tIsraeli bombardment? \t\t\thttp:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article14137.htm<\/a><\/p>\n Haven\u2019t you heard the reports that Israel is using strange banned \t\t\tweapons in southern Lebanon including cluster-grenades, \t\t\tlaser-weaponry, and white phosphorus? http:\/\/www.uruknet.info\/?p=m25033&hd=0&size=1&l=e <\/a><\/p>\n Haven\u2019t you heard the haunting shrieks of the young boy who was \t\t\tfilmed in hospital by CNN after being incinerated by Israeli napalm? \t\t\thttp:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article14181.htm<\/a><\/p>\n Haven\u2019t you seen the heartrending picture of the dying Lebanese \t\t\tmother peering up for the last time at her blood-spattered and \t\t\tinconsolable child; another victim of the Israeli onslaught? \t\t\thttp:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article14180.htm<\/a><\/p>\n What type of man would put out the \u201cred carpet\u201d for his enemy while \t\t\this people are still being slaughtered in the field?<\/p>\n A simple phone call to the State Department could have stopped the \t\t\tSecretary from landing in Lebanon. How much courage does that take?<\/p>\n If you were a brave man you would have placed the Secretary and her \t\t\tentire entourage under \u201chouse arrest\u201d demanding that Israel stop its \t\t\t\u201cscorched earth\u201d campaign before releasing Rice and her people. But, \t\t\twe do not expect you to do the \u201ccourageous thing\u201d, just the \u201cdecent \t\t\tthing\u201d.<\/p>\n No one expects you to join the resistance and fight the butchers who \t\t\thave invaded your country from the south. No one expects you to risk \t\t\tyour life to show your love for Lebanon or your willingness to die \t\t\tfor your countryman. But why would you humiliate yourself by posing \t\t\twith the very people who have devastated your homeland and killed \t\t\tyour country\u2019s children? Is your dignity worth so little that you \t\t\twould grovel at Israel\/America\u2019s feet for a villa in the Riviera and \t\t\ta pocket full of silver?<\/p>\n Jesus Christ said, \u201cFor what shall it profit a man if he should gain \t\t\tthe whole world but lose his soul.\u201d<\/p>\n What about your soul, Prime Minister? Was that part of America\u2019s \t\t\tbargain, too?<\/p>\n You have disgraced your country and betrayed your people.
