Brig. John Lorimer claimed the Basra prison breakout was launched to determine if the undercover soldiers were there or had been “handed over” to “militia elements.” Iraqis told CNN<\/a> the Brits were in a safe house for their own protection. Makes sense. What has yet to be addressed is why these undercover soldiers engaged in a fire fight with Iraqi police, killing one, when they were stopped for questioning. Lorimer is right that coalition troops have immunity to Iraqi law under U.N. Security Council resolution 1546, a protection Justice Minister Abdul Hussein Shandal<\/a> wants to end or amend. He said, “This is a matter of sovereignty.” Good luck with that<\/a>!<\/p>\n
