\"pill\"<\/a>Thanks in large part to the months-long efforts of Jane Hamsher and her FDL team — who spent enormous amounts of time and resources getting large numbers of progressive House members to emphatically commit<\/a> on video to opposing<\/strong> any health care bill that lacks a robust public option — there’s actually a chance this time that the outcome could be different.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n– The Senate HELP Committee \u201cpublic option\u201d will be multiple \u201coptions,\u201d and these will be run by insurance companies<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Leaders of the \u201cpublic option\u201d movement have an obligation to advertise the HELP Committee bill truthfully. It is not accurate to say the HELP Committee bill creates a \u201crobust\u201d or \u201cstrong\u201d public option. It is not even accurate to say the HELP Committee bill creates one \u201coption.\u201d The truth is the \u201coption\u201d is balkanized and very weak. In fact, HCAN, Andy Stern, Howard Dean and other \u201coption\u201d advocates who have praised the HELP Committee bill should do more than cease to praise it. They should tell Congress they oppose it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– Reply to critics of \u201cBait and switch: How the \u2018public option\u2019 was sold\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPublic option\u201d advocates should start talking about the \u201cpublic option\u201d as if it were inextricably tied to an insurance industry bailout. They should write the phrase \u201cpublic-option-insurance-industry-bailout\u201d on a Post-it note and paste it to their bathroom mirror to remind them to be honest with themselves and the public about this fact.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
