No “good” news means no news | Army bars Stars and Stripes reporter from covering 1st Cav unit in Mosul

Army bars Stars and Stripes reporter from covering 1st Cav unit in Mosul
Stars and Stripes, Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Asserting that Stars and Stripes “refused to highlight” good news in Iraq that the U.S. military wanted to emphasize, Army officials have barred a Stripes reporter from embedding with a unit of the 1st Cavalry Division that is attempting to secure the violent city of Mosul.

Officials said Stripes reporter Heath Druzin, who covered operations of the division’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team in February and March, would not be permitted to rejoin the unit for another reporting tour because, among other things, he wrote in a March 8 story that many Iraqi residents of Mosul would like the American soldiers to leave and hand over security tasks to Iraqi forces.

Why Stripes won’t replace reporter barred by Army

If Star and Stripes editors gave in to the military and sent another reporter to Mosul in Heath Druzin’s place, everything the new reporter wrote would be suspect, says Stripes ombud Mark Prendergast. “Moreover, an unintended consequence might be that the substitute reporter, mindful of the pall of suspicion over him or her, might prove even more nettlesome than Druzin, to dispel suspicion and preserve his or her independence and professional reputation.”

Brent Scowcroft: “Of course” the U.S. has agents in Iran

US ‘has agents working inside Iran’
Al Jazeera English / 25 June 2009

Brent Scowcroft said on Wednesday that “of course” the US had agents in Iran amid the ongoing pressure against the Iranian government by protesters opposed to the official result of its presidential election.

But he added that he had no idea whether US agents had provided help to the opposition movement in Iran, which claims that the authorities rigged the June 12 election in favour of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the incumbent president.

“They might do. Who knows?” Scowcroft told Josh Rushing for Al Jazeera’s Fault Lines programme.

Who knows?!? The U.S. has so many agents acting clandestinely to destabilise foreign governments it can’t be expected to know what U.S. sponsored agents actually do to spread democracy about the globe as unscrupulous vermin would an STD!

Cynthia McKinney: We Leave for Gaza Tomorrow; I’ve Asked the White House to Intervene for our Safety

Cynthia McKinney
24 June 2009

I just sent the following message to President Obama:

“Mr. President, Please ask the Israelis to not harm our boats and to let us proceed to Gaza.  The Israelis are paying attention and have printed stories about our boats in both the Jerusalem Post and Ha’aretz.  We are doing nothing more than what you have already requested the Israelis to do: ease up on the Gaza blockade. Please ask the Israelis to allow us to proceed to Gaza without harm. Sincerely, Cynthia McKinney”

You, too, can contact the White House (http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/) and ask them to send a message to Israel requesting our safe passage to Gaza. We pose no threat to Israel and represent real hope for change in US policy for the people of Gaza. I also contacted the State Department and the Justice Department with similar messages.

We are in a group training now.  What will we do if . . . I’ll upload pictures and some video (if I’ve mastered this video camera) to our http://dignity.ning.com and http://www.livestream.com/dignity pages. Please visit all of our pages listed below and join!!

DIGNITY will be planning some direct actions inside the U.S., too. Additionally, I have communicated with the authorities re: Troy Davis and am in communication with Peltier’s attorney.

As always, I do look forward to hearing from you!!
