Fearing arrest, Tzipi Livni cancels visit to Britain

By Marcus Dysch, TheJC.com, 14 December 2009

Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni cancelled a visit to Britain this weekend over fears pro-Palestinian lawyers would seek to have her arrested.

Ms Livni had been due to speak at Sunday’s JNF Vision 2010 conference in Hendon, north-west London. She had also been expected to meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown for private talks.

But she pulled out of the trip for fear of lawyers obtaining an arrest warrant.

Sarah McDonald: Settlements, attacks drive out Palestinians

Sarah McDonald, gazetteonline, 13 December 2009

On Nov. 17, my colleague and I were physically attacked by five Israeli settlers in the West Bank while escorting home a Palestinian family with three young children. The five settlers circled us, then shoved the Palestinian father as he clutched his baby in his arms. They terrified the 3-year-old stumbling after his parents.

My Italian colleague and I, volunteers with Christian Peacemaker Teams, intervened and videotaped the settlers’ aggression until the five men knocked us to the ground, dragging and kicking us, before stealing our cameras.

It raises questions to the international community, political leaders in the region, and the churches worldwide about their contribution to the Palestinian people’s pursuit of freedom. Clinton Warns Latin America: Think Twice about Iran Ties

Al-Manar TV
12 December 2009

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Latin American countries on Friday not to get too close to Iran, calling it “a really bad idea” that could have consequences.

Clinton said the United States was well aware Iran had stepped up its diplomatic activities in the region, citing Venezuela and Bolivia in particular. “We can only say that is a really bad idea for the countries involved,” Clinton told a State Department briefing on Latin American relations.

“This is the major supporter, promoter and exporter of terrorism in the world today,” she claimed. “If people want to flirt with Iran, they should take a look at what the consequences might well be for them. And we hope that they will think twice.”
